I made this garden during a time when I was experiencing strong depression and anxiety. Oftentimes my anxiety manifests in an intense fear of being houseless. During these times, I try to remind myself of what it truly means to have a home and to feel safe.
This little garden is an expression of my queer body thriving in a safe space. The microflora and fauna in and on our bodies outnumber our own cells 10 to 1. In this light, we are more garden than human. It’s interesting to think about how so many of us are struggling to find safe places to exist, while actively providing a home for billions of little creatures. What does your garden look like? What needs to exist there in order for you to thrive?
