Pansy is a nature spirit that wears a petaled mask and has a clay body. I once read about a Pueblo tradition of making little unbaked clay figures of things you want to draw into your life. These little wishes are placed upon an altar and then buried where they melt back into the earth from which they came. Such clay figures are believed to be the seed from which the real object will grow.
Pansy shows up in my art from time to time as a little Earth prayer for all of my fellow queer cuties. Let’s take care of each other as we challenge systems of domination and oppression together. One pansy may be small, but together we are powerful.
